STUDENT LOAN CONSOLIDATION
You may be considering consolidating all of your Student Loans into one easily manageable, low interest loan. If you are there are a few things you should be very aware of:
Be sure that the interest rate on the consolidated loan is lower that the interest you are already paying.
Don’t tie yourself into repayment periods that are excessively long…you don’t want to be paying off your Student Loan for the rest of your life.
Don’t sign up for a loan with the first company that you find…make sure they are reputable companies. Not someone with a desk and a phone who will charge extravagant interest rates.
I strongly advise against using any of your property as security. If you miss payments not only will you loose your house you will still have debts to pay off.
AND THE ONE TO REALLY BE AWARE OF IS:
A NO-COST STUDENT LOAN CONSILIDATION. …
Wow! Incredible! You have just spent the last 3 – 4 years at college or university amassing a huge debt through student loans and then this company comes along and offers to consolidate all of your loans into one easily manageable loan FOR FREE?? They may waive their administration fee or signing on fee but always remember at the end of the deal this FREE process will always work out to the benefit of the company offering the loan.
How a Student Loan Consolidation Works
Here is how the student loan consolidation works. A student loan consolidation company takes all of your different loans that you have taken out to pay your way through college or university and pays each one of them off. You then at this stage start paying the student loan consolidation company for the TOTAL AMOUNT of the loans. Hopefully at an interest rate that is better for you.
Example of Student Loan Consolidation
If you were to have outstanding loans of $5000 to one company, $6000 to another, and $9000 to a third, the student loan consolidation allows you to owe $20000 to one company, rather than to three. This can save you money in the long run, as these companies also may be able to offer you a competitive interest rate, which means you will be paying less overall for your student loans in a shorter amount of time and to only one company.
Pretty straight forward actually but as I stated at the beginning ….always negotiate a better interest rate…and remember you are in a position to negotiate as they want YOUR business. Don’t tie yourself into paying off your loan forever. Try and work out a period that is not to long and one that you can afford each month. Don’t try and pay back more than you can afford in a month.
So Good Luck to You and remember…….you’re worth it!
